AxelLiner Laboratory to Conduct Its First In-Orbit Demonstration Mission

OCT - 15 - 2026

NEWS, PRESS

~ Testing ASPINA's Reaction Wheel on GRUS-3 ~

Axelspace Corporation (“Axelspace”) announced that it plans to conduct an in-orbit demonstration(“IOD”) of the reaction wheel jointly developed with ASPINA Shinano Kenshi Co., Ltd. (ASPINA) on one of its GRUS-3 microsatellites. This marks the first application of AxelLiner Laboratory (“AL Lab”), Axelspace’s IOD service for space components.

Outlook of the reaction wheel for the 100kg-class satellites (Provided by ASPINA)

ASPINA and Axelspace have jointly developed this reaction wheel for 100kg-class satellites since 2020. Despite being critical components for satellite attitude control, reaction wheels typically involve long lead times and high costs. Both companies have aimed to meet the quality requirements for microsatellites while achieving a significantly shortened lead time of just two to three months from order to shipment.

The IOD will evaluate the reaction wheel’s reliability, attitude control performance, and performance under space environmental conditions. By sharing data acquired during the demonstration with ASPINA, Axelspace will support ASPINA’s future development and commercialization efforts.

The reaction wheel is installed on one of the seven GRUS-3 satellites launched on July 7, 2026 (JST). Although this reaction wheel is installed on one of the four satellites affected by the anomaly, the IOD remains feasible on this satellite, and Axelspace plans to proceed with it. The start date will be announced once determined.
