Axelspace Corporation (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yuya Nakamura) is pleased to announce that our Earth observation platform ”AxelGlobe” received the Idea Award at the Asia-Pacific qualifying round of the SIH Business Contest 2022 held in May, primarily sponsored by the general incorporated association SDGs Innovation HUB. With this, we will move on to the world final to be held on November 2-3 this year.
SDGs Innovation HUB is an organization that runs business contests, hackathons, ideathons, pitch competitions and more in an aim to help achieve the SDGs. Its goal is to act as a hub that brings together independent innovation and the funding needed from industry, government, private organizations and academia to support the innovation.
The SIH Business Contest evaluates contestants based on 12 criteria, such as conformity with the principles of the SDGs, concrete solutions, innovation and novelty, feasibility, and sustainability. We were selected for the award, highly evaluated for the novelty of the solutions AxelGlobe offers by utilizing satellite imagery, as well as the feasibility and sustainability of our business which we have been already rolling out since 2019.
AxelGlobe, winner of this year’s Idea Award, is a next-generation optical Earth observation platform that allows you to monitor any part of the world at high frequency. With five satellites currently in place, we are able to observe the same location once every two to three days and provide images at 2.5m ground resolution. We plan to launch four additional satellites and allocate nine satellites on orbit in the future, which will enable us to capture the world on a daily basis. Satellite imagery has been drawing attention for its use in precision agriculture managing crop growth and predicting optimal harvest times as well as in urban planning, monitoring of economic trends, disaster response etc. It also enables remote monitoring of supply chains in the post-COVID world, and environmental monitoring to help contribute to the SDGs and address ESG-related challenges.
