Axelspace Corporation (HQ: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yuya Nakamura) and the Japanese National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST; HQ: Chiyoda-ku; President: Ryoji Chubachi) have signed a collaboration contract for the research of advanced machine learning methods focused on analyzing and processing satellite images.
Axelspace’s AxelGlobe project, announced in December 2015, aims at provisioning by 2022 a 50-satellite constellation capable of capturing imagery of the whole world every day. The enormous amounts of data acquired by the satellites will be provided as a service for applications in many different fields.
Axelspace plans to launch a first generation of three GRUS satellites in 2017, and to start operations soon after launch. After that, the number of GRUS satellites in orbit will be gradually incremented until daily global coverage is reached. Below are the satellite specifications of GRUS for reference.
