Axelspace Corporation (HQ: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yuya Nakamura) and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, HQ: Chofu-shi, Tokyo; President: Naoki Okumura) have signed today a memorandum of collaboration to promote the growth of business applications based on satellite imagery. The orbital infrastructure of JAXA’s Earth observation enterprises and of Axelspace’s AxelGlobe project will aid businesses in the solution of planetary-level issues.
The AxelGlobe project, announced by Axelspace in December 2015, aims at placing 50 microsatellites in orbit by the year 2022, enabling the daily observation of our planet. Three first-generation GRUS microsatellites are expected to be launched in 2017 and to commence operations shortly afterwards. Later, the number of satellites in orbit will be gradually increased until daily global coverage of the Earth will be reached. Below are the satellite specifications of GRUS for reference.
