Your job is like a dream! This is the inevitable reaction we get when we tell someone that space is our playing field. Indeed, space is a romantic and awe-inspiring place for many people. However, comparing it to a dream also shows that you perceive it as a distant, unreachable world. If you think about it, this is far from the truth. The GPS receivers in our cars and smartphones, the satellite radio you listen to while driving, the Earth imagery you see every day in weather forecast programs; these are all possible thanks to space technology. It is already part of our daily lives, a luxury of which we are barely aware.
Nevertheless, here at Axelspace we are not satisfied with the current state of space development. We have set out to bring a much-needed wave of innovation with a new tool: microsatellite technology.
Why do we focus on microsatellites? Currently, the costs of space development are so enormous as to be unbearable by any organization other than governments. All the benefits we get from space are due, to some extent, to the initiatives of national institutions around the world. This is not a bad thing in itself: the cutting-edge technologies of this sector entail huge risks, and it is only natural that countries try to offset the latter to some extent. However, this situation is a receptacle for large projects of doubtful cost-effectiveness and, sometimes, for a waste of taxpayer money.
We believe that whatever is considered “common practice” on the Earth should be applied to space as well. With our microsatellites, we are able to cut the costs of space utilization by 99%. This is certain to attract private investments and thrust the space business to unprecedented scales. When many people start businesses in this sector, space stops being a special, dreamlike place. This “Everyday Space” is exactly what we hope to achieve.
