Axelspace Announces Partnership with Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan to Distribute Earth Observation Data in AxelGlobe

Axelspace Corporation announces partnership with Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan (RESTEC) to distribute Earth Observation Data in AxelGlobe, the next-generation optical Earth observation platform covering the world on a daily basis that Axelspace has been constructing since 2015.

Currently, AxelGlobe consists of 5 satellites named “GRUS” and can observe anywhere in the world every couple of days, capturing images with a ground resolution of 2.5 m. By 2023, Axelspace will launch five more satellites, which will enable us to monitor the world every day. The satellite images taken by AxelGlobe are expected to be used for various applications, such as crop growth management and prediction of the best time to harvest (so-called “precision agriculture”), urban planning, understanding of economic trends, disaster monitoring. Emerging needs include remote monitoring of supply chains under the pandemic situation and environmental monitoring in order to contribute to SDGs and respond to ESG requirements.

RESTEC is a major organization in Japan engaging in the provision of comprehensive solutions and R&D projects regarding remote sensing technology. The organization has more than 45 years of experience in distribution and analysis of a wide variety of domestic and international Earth observation data, currently distributing data from more than 20 different satellites. RESTEC has been working to solve social issues by utilizing satellite data in a wide range of fields including infrastructure, disaster prevention, urban planning, agriculture, forestry and fisheries.

Through this partnership, Axelspace and RESTEC plan to promote the worldwide utilization of AxelGlobe data and develop new solutions together.
